Update: Norm’s book is out! Click here to get your copy
Many of you knew Norm Gronskei. If you didn’t know him here is a link to brief obit for him: http://bit.ly/2Z1UW23
Norm was a story teller. He kept a book in which he wrote down many interesting stories of his life and times in Pioneer and Bralorne. In the last 10 years or so he published them in our local newsletter, the Mountain Telegraph.
Norm, his family and the entire community thought a book of his stories should be published. But…it never quite happened. But it is now!!! His family and the Bridge River Valley Community Association have come together and we are going to have a professionally published book done with the working title, “Behind the Gold” Norm Gronskei’s stories of Life in Pioneer and Bralorne .
Everybody is on board and has agreed, that once printed and being sold – 1/3 of the proceeds will go to The Mountain Telegraph and 2/3 will go to the Museum. We know this is exactly what Norm would want.
It takes a bit of money and a lot of work to get a book professionally published. Leaving aside the printing , publishing involves:
- transcribe (some) And organize all of his stories (30-40)
- find suitable photos to go with each story in the Museum
- write a forward and perhaps a chapter on Norm
- have the book cover designed
- have the all the stories professionally edited (and the family will be very involved here to make sure Norm’s “voice” doesn’t change)
- have the book typeset professionally
- have the book indexed (so the reader can find names of people and places easily)
We are working with the publisher that helped us digitize and re-publish Bridge River Gold and she has given us a quote of approx.. $5,000.
Norm’s family is putting in $1,000 to start us off. Can you help with a small donation? We think you will agree that Norm’s stories will keep the legacy of Bralorne and Pioneer going forward for a long long time.
Here is one of Norm’s stories called First Class Living…. http://bit.ly/2YVlqC4 We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
If you can help with a donation , a cheque can be made out to Bridge River Valley Community Association, General Delivery, Gold Bridge, BC V0K 1P0
You can also click here to send a donation via Credit Card or Pay Pal
This is such a worthy project for all of us, we hope you will support it. Our goal would be to have the book out next year.
I am looking for information concerning the person who died in the fire that destroyed the Bralorne Hotel fire in 1955 along with any details of the event. Can anyone help me with that?
I understand that this book is now out, how much is it and how would I get a copy ?
