Reaching Out – Project Co-ordinator
Reaching Out – Connecting Generations and Cultures – Past and Present
A project funded by New Horizons for Seniors
The Bridge River Valley Community Association (BRVCA) plans to reach out to vulnerable seniors who are disconnected as a result of being socially and/or geographically isolated throughout the vast area of the Bridge River Valley. The isolation causes disconnection from peers, younger generations, and the community itself.
Outreach will be achieved by hiring a project coordinator to connect with seniors on a monthly basis and transport them to the Gold Bridge Community hall where they will meet up with other seniors and St’at’imc Nation Elders to share knowledge, skills, and experiences, and to collaborate on ways to preserve and to share this information.
This project will also encourage intergenerational and intercultural learning through engagement activities with local and St’at’imc Nation Youth. Seniors and Elders will determine the project activities, which may include preparing traditional foods, creating hard copy and electronic scrapbooks capturing past and present day memories, learning traditional and modern crafts and techniques, as well as learning traditional languages and modern day technology.
Project Coordinator must demonstrate an ability to work with a vulnerable population as well as enjoying facilitating the lunches and activities each month.
Education/Experience in the social services field would be an asset.
One Year project – mid-February 2018 to mid-February 2019
Two days per month (14 hours) @ $18/hr. One day will be for planning, the other day for facilitating the monthly lunch
Vehicle preferred, although we can probably find an alternate vehicle for the right coordinator. A ll expenses will be reimbursed.
